I have dealt with suicidal thoughts and urges for the better part of my life, and there's something about songs like this that deal with the darkest of subject matters through sarcasm and tongue-in-cheek lyrics that really made me feel like I wasn't alone. It had the intensity and extremity of all of the hardcore punk music that shaped my childhood, with a shining layer of melody peeking through during the most powerful and memorable parts of the song - especially in the Origin of the Feces version. It went from being a peripheral interest, to my entire life, and "Gravity" was the catalyst. In the twilight of my teenage years, just as I had decided to try my hand at drums, I discovered Type O - and my relationship with music was never the same. I latched onto his interests and hobbies, as we grew up mostly unattended, which lead me to hardcore/punk and metal as early as elementary school. Very early on in life, I was a mirror of my brother Taylor. This is the song I would show to someone from a hardcore/punk background. "Gravity," - was the song that made me a fan, and it gave me such a deeper appreciation of music as a whole. There will simply never be another band or artist that inspires me the way that Pete/Type O did, which is why I'd like to pick two songs: "Anesthesia" and "Gravitational Constant." I don't uhhh … quite know what the extra dimensions are, but like, you know it when you hear it. Peter Steele, and Type O Negative, were four-dimensional. Your influences guide you through the process, but don't have to define you. While most music is two-dimensional in nature, Type O constantly reminded me that there are no rules in songwriting. Every aspect of Peter's personality can be heard throughout the incomparable journey that is Type O Negative's discography. He was brilliant, hilarious, and brutally honest about his emotions, and I know all of this without ever having a personal relationship with him. The band may have officially split following Steele’s untimely death, but the music strill lives on.Peter Steele is my only musical hero that never got to disappoint me. Shortly after his death, Type O Negatove confirmed they were to split. In 2010, it was announced Steele had passed away, reportedly from heart failure. Honing their sound and pioneering their own way in goth metal, 'Dead Again' was the highest debuting album in the bands career career. Their 2007 album, Dead Again, was to be their last – but it also captured geniuses at the apex of their career. Their continued success came in part from appearing on the soundtracks for major motion pictures including 'Freddy V Jason', 'I Know What You Did Last Summer#, 'Bride of Chucky and The Blair Witch Project.# Type O Negative released seven studio albums throughout their career and went platinum with 1993's Bloody Kisses, as well as achieving plenty of other certifications for consistently strong sales. Submerging to the darker realities of life with unflinching and honest lyricism, the group were thought of as the Yin to the Beatles’ Yang, the Fab Four’s evil twins dubbed the ‘Drab Four.’ Lead vocalist Peter Steele has cited the inspiration for the band as everyone from Black Sabbath and The Beatles to Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, and AC / DC. Type O Negative took elements from the sounds of their heroes and put their own unique spin on it. Formed in 1989, the band was made up of hardcore metal heads Peter Steele, Kenny Hickey, Josh Silver and Sal Abruscato (who was later replaced by Johnny Kelly). Type O Negative were an American goth metal band hailing from Brookly. Goth metal fans know one thing to be true: whoever we are, wherever we’re from, we all bleed Type O Negative.
